U.S. Picks High-Powered Team For New York Riders Masters Cup

US team leader Robert Ridland has announced the five riders who will defend the colors of the United States in the Riders Masters Cup at the upcoming CSI5* Longines Masters in New York on April 27th.

For the New York leg of the show jumping series, Robert Ridland opted for experience by selecting McLain Ward, Beezie Madden, Devin Ryan, Laura Chapot and Lillie Keenan as the U25 rider. Winners of the World Cup Finals in 2017 and 2018, the former two will ride alongside Ryan, who finished second in the World Cup Final last year in Paris. For her part, Laura Chapot is almost unknown in Europe, as she has competed only on the American continent.

For her part, Lillie Keenan has good experience despite her young age. She has represented the Stars and Stripes on several occasions in Nations Cups.

‘‘In the first three editions, there was always a lot of suspense until the end and the result was often decided by the last duel’’, recalls Ridland. ‘‘We were very close to winning last year in New York and the Europeans eventually beat us, but the competition was great. We intend to reverse the trend this year. We have a strong team on paper, with experienced riders like McLain Ward and Beezie Madden, as well as Devin Ryan who was already part of the first team in Paris. Laura Chapot will be our wildcard. She is one of the fastest riders of the moment and a major asset for our team. Lillie Keenan is of course a priceless asset as a representative of the Under 25. I think it’s a good line-up, but we’ll see.’’

Sixth in the Longines World Cup final of Gothenburg last weekend, Beezie Madden is determined to offer a first American victory in this event: ‘‘Now the goal is the Riders Masters Cup, and I promise you we will do everything we can to win it this time!’’
