Whitaker out of Gothenburg Horse Show after collarbone fracture in warm-up – also in town for Hall of Fame induction

Veteran British show jumper John Whitaker will not be riding in the 2019 Gothenburg Horse Show in the coming days after falling and sustaining a fractured collarbone in the warm-up class at the competition in Sweden yesterday, according to media reports.

Whitaker – a past winner of the World Cup Final in Gothenburg with Milton – was not qualified for this year’s Final but was in town to take part in other classes. He is also one of the 2019 inductees into the Gothenburg Hall of Fame. The decision to pull out of the competition was reportedly made after the rider was examined by an on-site medical specialist. For more details, see this article in Swedish with images (including Whitaker after the fall walking with Beezie Madden and her husband John, whose own arm is in a sling) from Ridsport.

Also according to reports, Whitaker’s Argento has been checked by a veterinarian at different times after the accident, and has been found to be free of injury.
