“On paper, but also [based on] his performance, Daniel Deusser is my favourite.”

That’s the view of veteran German show jumper Ludger Beerbaum heading into next week’s 2019 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The 56-year-old, who is currently ranked 56th in the world, made the remarks to World of Showjumping. Beerbaum will be bringing two horses to the southwestern Swedish city, Casello and Cool Feeling. The four-time Olympic Games gold medallist (in both the Team and Individual categories) previously won the World Cup Final in 1993 (also in Gothenburg) with Almox Ratina Z, ahead of John Whitaker and Everest Grannusch and Everest Milton.

Daniel Deusser, who came in first in the Western European League World Cup standings this season, raised the possibility earlier this year of riding for Belgium in the future if a dispute with the German national federation is not resolved. In Gothenburg next week, he is entered with two World Cup horses: Jasmien VD Bisschop and Tobago Z.
