Lamaze wins, has 3 horses in top 10 at Winter Equestrian Festival

After a long absence due to health issues, Canada’s top show jumper Eric Lamaze has made a gradual return to high-level competition in recent weeks. And in one class Thursday at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida, the current World. No.15 in the sport made the most of the occasion.

Indeed, in a 1.45m Open Jumper Thursday at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, the 2008 Olympic Champion not only claimed victory with one of his leading horses, Chacco Kid,  but also placed in the top 10 with two other horses: 6th with Bonnie MZ and 10th with Firkov du Rouet.

Other riders in the class included Georgina Bloomberg (8th with Manhattan), McLain Ward (15th with Noche de Ronda), Shane Sweetnam (19th with Deleyn), Chloe Reid (32nd with Sally 643) and Rodrigo Lambre (37th with Conandro 2). Lamaze and Chacco Kid finished with zero faults and a time of 28.746 seconds in the jump-off, ahead of Chris Ewanouski and Binja (29.216) and Lauren Crooks and Imperatrice VD Donkhoeve (32.029).

The full results are available here.

Given his health condition over the past year, Eric Lamaze – who has traditionally been based part of the year in Europe and part in North America – has remained in Florida and not made the trip to this weekend's Dutch Masters Indoor Brabant Horse Show. Photo below by Starting Gate Communications.
