U.S., Canadian eventing teams plot path to Tokyo Olympics through Pan American Games

The route to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will pass through the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru for the Canadian, American and Brazilian eventing teams, as all the countries in the Americas are still trying to qualify for Japan. And the United States has outlined how it will go about selecting its athletes who will try and earn one of the two spots up for grabs in Lima.

As Eventing Nation points out, the Games in Peru will be what everyone is focusing on to get to Japan after no nations from Groups D and E (North and Central & South America) qualified at the Tryon FEI World Equestrian Games last September. And as Jenni Autry of EN writes, the U.S. selection procedures for the Games in Peru were approved on January 31, 2019, including the competitions confirmed as selection trials for the U.S. team.

Autry adds that the Pan Am Games eventing competition will be at the CCI3*-L (formerly CCI2*) level. Teams will be made up of four horses and riders with a drop score and will compete from August 1–4.  For more details, see the original report here.
