Finding the right riding club

Some of us have already found the perfect riding club, but that's not the case for everyone. And identifying the right spot is not always easy. Below, some tips from GRANDPRIX-Replay.com on various factors to consider.

Big and healthy ponies. While being overweight or obese is often problematic, it is undoubtedly better to see a pony a little on the pudgy side with an appetite, than a scrawny, undernourished one. Indeed, overall health (vaccinations, good movement without lameness, etc.) is an essential criterion.
Energetic equines. It may also be that some mounts at equestrian centres are fairly lethargic and do not respond much to any stimulus. While that might be the case for one or two of them, it should not be the case across the board.
Versatile ponies. Because the principle of riding clubs is for youngsters to be able to learn all kinds of equestrian disciplines, it is important that the resident mounts be versatile, so that every rider can discover and learn what he or she likes best.
Fair instructors. We become good riders with good instructors. Thus, it is very important to find stables where the instructors are patient, pedagogical and fair, in order to create real horsemen and women.
Clean facilities and equipment. Whether it is concerning the pastures, stabling, or otherwise, it is important that ponies feel good about where they live. Respecting and maintaining their habitat is therefore essential. The same applies to saddles, blankets and other equipment, which must be properly maintained to avoid injury or discomfort for equines.
A convenient location. The ideal situation for riding ponies or horses is to be close to the stables. Indeed, the shorter the travel time to get there, the more time one can spend with them there.
A family atmosphere. For kids, a riding club is a place to live and play, so it is obviously more fun for the entire family when it is friendly and welcoming. When that is the case, your kids will harass you every Wednesday and/or Saturday to return, to see their friend(s) and ponies.
Some available horses. Finally, it is always advantageous (above all for grown-ups) to have access to a few horses at an equestrian centre. When that is the case, everyone can ride, no matter their size.
