€668,000 in bids, Tiffany Foster among buyers at Sale of the Rising Stars

Returning to where it was originally held nine years ago, in Zwolle, the Netherlands, this past weekend’s Sale of the Rising Stars was warmly welcomed by everyone in attendance. In the pleasant Jumping Zwolle venue, ten young and talented show jumping horses from Teus van den Brink racked up a total of €668,000 in bids, with auction favourite Impala (by Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve) going for a spectacular €160,000.

In the VIP area at the sale, the hands of international bidders shot up throughout the evening , but those on-site were also facing competition over the phone from foreign bidders. Indeed, Dennis van den Brink, Teus’ son, sold four horses to a British buyer – a very satisfied client who earlier this year had purchased three other horses at the Sale of the Rising Stars, and who will receive the new horses next week.

Co-organiser of the Jumping Zwolle and auction organiser Teus van den Brink was very pleased with the sale results: “I already had a very good feeling about the whole thing beforehand,” he said. “There was a relaxed atmosphere and everything ran smoothly. If these horses were not sold here Zwolle, where else? They are good jumpers and there are fine people here. It was just a matter of waiting.”

The fact that the five-year-old Impala (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Kojak), from the line of the KWPN stallion El Salvador and Grand Prix show jumping horse Glock’s Zaranza, went for €160,000, and the very tall Jywan (Etoulon VDL x Karandasj) for €110,000, came as no suprise to Teus van den Brink. “They are really great show jumping horses," he observed. "When I bought Impala a year ago, I originally wanted to keep her for Dennis. But this auction came rather early, because we moved from Indoor Drachten in January to Zwolle in October of the same year. I had to add her to the collection. You have to offer the horses which are the best ones in your stables at that time, which is only fair. It is not a clearance sale; you have to offer good quality because that is what is appreciated by the buyers.”

The British buyer mentioned above not only purchased Impala en Jywan, but also Inwood (Kannan x Kashmir Van Schuttershof) and Jurette H (Arezzo VDL x Corland). Canadian Grand Prix rider Tiffany Foster bought Identia (Zavall VDL x Lux) by telephone; she is being trained for the hunter sport and will start next January at the renowned Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida. “Tiffany had visited me at home to try her out and on that occasion also bought another hunter from me,” says Teus van den Brink.

The Belgian show jumping rider Boy-Adrian Van Gelderen – who had earlier bought Gringo R and Olga G in this auction and has been successful with them – this time acquired Jemen (Harley VDL x Andiamo). Emmelie Melssen, girlfriend of Dennis van den Brink, will also have a super new sport horse in Jolita (Arezzo VDL x Quasimodo Z).
