In 2016, Ursula XII was the horse world’s biggest cash cow.

That’s the headline from a newly published ranking of the top-earning horses of the past year.  The mare of Great Britain’s Scott Brash was the biggest money-maker between January 5th and December 31st, 2016, according to the rankings of the site Hippomundo.
 
During that period, Ursula took home more than US $1,192,000 in winnings. One of her biggest wins with Brash was at the Rolex Grand Slam of Spruce Meadows in Alberta, Canada. 

The second biggest earner of the year among elite show jumpers, according to the site, was HH Azur, ridden by American McLain Ward. She brought in nearly $926,000, followed by Chesall, the gelding of top French rider Simon Delestre. His final tally: close to $648,000.

Also among the top ten prize winners:  

- Casall Ask, Swedish rider Rolf-Göran Bengtsson’s stallion and winner of the 2016 Longines Global Champions Tour Championship, with almost $622,000
- Ensor de Litrange, the mount of Italian Lorenzo de Luca, with earnings of around $604,000
- Prêt A Tout, German rider Marcus Ehning’s horse ($556,000)
- American Kent Farrington’s mare Gazelle, at $526,000
- Equita van't Zorgvliet, paired with Germany’s Daniel Deusser ($515,000)
- Quabri de l'Isle, ridden by Brazil’s Pedro Veniss (with more than $480,000 in winnings) and
- Cynar VA, who has been developing with the United States’ Jessica Springsteen ($477,000)
