Vote for the U.S. Horses of the Year

As with the Equestrian of the Year award, the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has opened online voting to the public for the Horses of the Year distinction in the United States, with three candidates in contention in both the international and national categories.

Voting will remain open until midnight Eastern time on January 4th, 2017. The USEF Horses of the Year will be named on January 14th during the 2017 Horse of the Year Awards Gala.

There is some cross-over between the human and horse nominations this year, with Laura Graves and Phillip Dutton both in the running alongside their mounts for the different awards.

See below for more information on the horse finalists, including the high-profile international category nominees HH Azur (silver at Rio Olympic Games), Mighty Nice (Olympic bronze), and Verdades (Olympic bronze).

You can vote for the USEF Horses of the Year here.

International Category Finalists

HH Azur
(Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Sion van de Zuuthoeve/Sir Lui)
2006 Belgian Warmblood mare
“HH Azur, or ‘Annie’ in the barn, is a tall, lovely mare that exudes talent. McLain Ward began competing Annie in 2015, and they have racked up numerous wins. With her calm, friendly, and confident demeanor, Annie is an invaluable partner in the electric atmosphere of the show ring.”

Mighty Nice
(Ard Ohio x Sarazen/Unknown)
2004 Irish Sport Horse gelding
“In 2016, Phillip Dutton and Mighty Nice earned fourth-place finishes in the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by Land Rover CCI4* and The Fork CIC3*. The pair’s highlight of the year was earning the Eventing Individual Bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.”

Verdades
(Florett As x Liwilarda/Goya)
2002 Dutch Warmblood gelding
Owner: Laura Graves
“Laura Graves has turned Verdades, known as “Diddy” in the barn, into a dressage superstar. Chosen as a foal by her mother from a video, Laura has advanced him up the levels herself with the guidance of several top trainers.”

National Category Finalists

In the National category, the three finalists are (also in alphabetical order):

~ 2007 Holsteiner gelding Catch Me (Casiro x Wonnie/Chagallo)
~ Sjaantje (Tsjerk x Wietske Janke V/Ritse), a 2005 Friesian mare, and
