Following superb wins by British riders in the grades II and Ia individual tests at the Olympic equestrian Centre in Deodoro on Thursday (15 September), Great Britain have won the overall team championships of the Rio 2016 para dressage competition. The team have won every Paralympic team competition since the sport was introduced to the Games in Atlanta 1996 and remain undefeated in European and World championships too – a total of 18 team titles.
“I’m absolutely thrilled,” said Great Britain’s Chef D’Equipe Sarah Armstrong. “I couldn’t have wished for a better result and the guys have been great.
The American team of Sydney Collier, Rebeca Hart, Margaret Macintosh and Angela Peavy finished 12th of the 14 teams but only 40 points behind the winners so there was plenty of hope for the future. Hart was ninth in the Grade II section on Romani which was the best individual result of the day and Roxanne Trunnell managed a tenth place on Royal Dancer in her test although she is not counting as part of the team score. Hart is the only US rider to qualify for today's Freestyle competitions. Start times and results are here http://rio2016.live.fei.org/
