USA On Top in Junior and Young Rider Nations Cups in Wellington

Week 8 of the Winter Equestrian was an exciting one, as it hosted four Nations Cup competitions. In addition to the CSIO**** Nations Cup, which was held on March 4 (and won by the Irish), the weekend rounded out with the Hollow Creek Farm FEI Young Rider, Junior, and Children's Nations Cup.

The $5,000 Hollow Creek Farm FEI Young Rider Nations’ Cup was won by Team USA in two rounds, finishing on just one time fault over Brazil in second with a score of 13, and Ireland third with a score of 15. The team of included Kelli Cruciotti (Chamonix H), Alexandra Crown (Von Cim), Madison Goetzmann (Wrigley), and Victoria Colvin (Zidane) was led by Chef d’Equipe DiAnn Langer.
“I think you can say that America’s got talent,” Langer said after the team’s fantastic finish. “It is extraordinary the talent that we have in this country. This is just an extraordinary group of girls. Their accomplishments are huge. We had many applicants for this team and all of them were fantastic. This group of girls really brought it home and when they were asked to step up and do this they said, ‘Yes, we are here,’ so I am really proud of them.”
Langer also coached the Junior team to another gold for the U.S. Ironically, Brazil was second in this competition, as was Ireland third.
Langer had this to say about the Junior team.
“I think that it is absolutely necessary to send our thanks forward to Hollow Creek Farm and to Equestrian Sport Productions for developing our young riders for the future. These girls are our future, and this competition is one of the very most important markers as far as high performance is concerned in the United States. Talking with the other chefs here developing their young riders, they feel the same.”
The U.S. Junior Team was made up of the following riders and horses:
-Emily Moffitt  and Poden Farms’ For Sale 6
-Kira Kerkorian and Lisa Kerkorian’s Nightfire 25
-Emma Heise and Old Willow Farms’ Quentucky Jolly
-Brett Burlington and Alden Burlington’s Bluf
The U.S. riders had 3 faults in the first round with an added 2 time faults, and then only 1 time fault during round 2.

Mexico Makes it Happen in Children's Nations Cup

The team from Mexico won the Children’s Nations Cup on March 5 with a score of 0, over the U.S. (in second), and Brazil. Chef d’Equipe Mauricio Guerra led the team of Franco Huesca Perez (Brigitte B), Nicole Velazco Magana (Dreamer), Jose Maria Quintana Melgoza (Romarin de Louzes), and Luciana Gonzalez Guerra (Zidane).
The Mexican Children’s team last won this event in 2014.
Guerra said, “I am very proud of all of these riders. They won a National Championship in December and at that moment they got the qualification to come here. As you see, they do a very good job, and that is why they won.”
