Tamarillo Clone Is Being Ridden By William Fox Pitt

Jackie Potts the award winning long time head girl of William Fox Pitt has released an image of  her boss riding Tomatillo, the exact clone of his Badminton winning ride Tamarillo.

Tamarillo was bred by his owners, Finn and Mary Guiness, who watched their darling gallop to a European silver medal at Blenheim in 2005 and wins at Badminton and Burghley.  Tamarillo was Fox-Pitt's Olympic mount in 2004 and his World Championship partner in 2002  but neither really went to plan for the former World Number One, who has always maintained though, that Tamarillo was the best he had ever ridden for sheer ability.

Finn Guiness is a geneticist  who applied science to his brreding programmes for Arab horses and Connemara ponies and he was always interested in the science of cloning. There is a second clone caled Tamarind who is with at a yard local to the Guinesses in Hampshire. It remains to be seen whether  either Tomatillo or Tamarind will be as talented as the original!
