Piggy French- Four Days, One Wedding, One Winner!
Badminton winner Piggy French, who married her fiancé Tom March in a star studded surprise wedding on Wednesday, has declined to take a honeymoon and istead got straight back to winning ways with her first ride after the nuptials!
Today she competed at the Great Witchingham International HorseTrials in Norfolk, where she won the first section on Brookfield Innocent. The pair were the runaway winners after only 1.6 time penalties were added to their leading dressage mark of 24.
The horse is jointly owned by John and Chloe Perry together with Alison Swinburn and who only started sending horses to Piggy at the beginning of the year. Talk about timing it right!
Both French and her husband Tom confirmed that she will continue to be known as Piggy French for eventing proposes for the rest of this season to save confusion and trying to change things like entries and her website mid-season.
Tom admitted they had decided to tie the knot about five weeks ago and that there would be a honeymoon at some point! They managed to keep the secret so well that even Piggy's grandmother Betty, admitted she had no idea what was coming other than a party for winning Badminton and consequently felt somewhat undersdressed walking into the church!
Another guest at the wedding said it was an enormous but fantastic surprise and that it had been a priviledge to have attended the entire celebration. Guests included the all the owners of Piggy's current string of horses plus her team mates and eventing friends in addition to family members.
