The winners of the Longines Best Race and Best Racehorse Awards for 2017 will recieve their prizes on Mondaty night at a glittering ceremony at London\'s Claridges Hotel and you can watch procedings via an internet live stream.
This year’s ceremony will begin at 14:00 GMT/9:00 EST and the video stream will be available through both longines.com and ifhaonline.org, as well as shown on the Facebook pages of Longines and the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities via Facebook Live.
The ceremony will also be available through the platforms of a number of media outlets including America’s Best Racing, At the Races, BloodHorse, Channel 7 Horseracing, Daily Racing Form, Equidia, Jour de Galop, Racing.com, and Thoroughbred Daily News.
This will be the fifth ceremony honouring the Longines World’s Best Racehorse. Previous winners include Arrogate (USA) in 2016, American Pharoah (USA) in 2015, Just A Way (JPN) in 2014, and Australia’s Black Caviar and France’s Treve, who were jointly celebrated in 2013. Arrogate was still at the head of the 2017 rankings when the last update was published in November and since then, none of the top five has run so it is likely Arrogate will win again, despite losing his latest starts before being retired.
In addition, this year marks the third time the Longines World’s Best Horse Race will be awarded. The Longines World’s Best Horse Race award recognizes the best-rated race of the highest-rated Group 1 international races as established for the year by a panel of international handicappers. The ratings of the top four finishers in each race serve as basis for the assessment. The Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was the inaugural winner in 2015, while the Breeders’ Cup Classic won in 2016.
The Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings are established by international handicappers according to the performance of the horses in elite races. The entire final 2017 rankings will be revealed on the day of the ceremony.
Those connected with the winning horse will be presented with a Longines watch and a replica of the vase of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse. Those connected with the Longines World’s Best Horse Race will also be presented with a watch and a replica of a trophy representing a horse head. The originals can now be seen at the Longines Boutique on Oxford Street in London.
