Micheal Jung-No more championships for Sam
Michael Jung has decided not to bring his top horse, double Olympic gold medallist La Biostheque Sam to any more championships.
As part of a press conference in the run-up to the Stuttgart German Masters eventing rider Michael Jung explained that the time of the championship for Sam is over. At his last start with Sam, the CCI4 * in Pau, France the pair had bad luck. Michael Jung pulled his gelding out before the start in the dressage. Sam was fit in dressage training in the morning, but showed two hours later that he was not feeling well. After returning from the event Sam was examined by the veterinarian, who suspected Sam struck a leg. Whether that was the reason for Sam's indisposition or cold muscles, as the rider had suspected - no matter. Due to the situation in Pau, Michael Jung has decided that another championship for his now 17-year-old success is out of the question. In a team competition, the team must be able to rely on every rider, but Michael Jung does not want to put his Sam under this pressure. Sam has won several medals and bows with his rider in his long career. The greatest successes of the Stan the Man xx son include three Olympic gold medals - two won the pair in the individual standings, one in the team competition. Even though Michael Jung and his golden horse will no longer compete in the big challenges, the sport is far from over. Michael Jung would like to be able to go into the one day CIC type contest with his star - a setting that is more horse-friendly and reveals an important aspect of Michael Jung's success: The key to success is based largely on excellent horse management. With Rocana, Takinou and Lennox, the rider also has other talented horses in the stable, which are eligible for championships.
